Hi-Def Disc Players

DVD has been around a long time now. It's easy to use, the discs are easy to store and the picture looks good. But they are not Hi-Def! Enter the Blu-ray disc. Connected to your Hi-Def TV, you can enjoy brilliant, detailed Hi-Definition video content from a disc.

Blu-ray Disc or BD
Blu-ray Disc is a next generation disc format developed jointly by a group of leading electronics companies. It offers more than 5 times the storage capability of traditional DVD, enough to handle the demands of high definition programming. Blu-ray Disc has the capability to deliver a pristine Hi-Def picture and uncompressed HD DTS or Dolby True HD multi channel surround sound. Blu-ray players are backwards compatible, they can play regular DVDs up-converted to 480p or 1080i.

Because Blu-ray has more storage, it can do even more. You can view menu options while the movie is showing. You can even play embedded BD Java games which are featured on some Blu-ray titles.

HD DVD
Toshiba was the creator of HD DVD, an early rival of the Blu-ray system. In February 2008, Toshiba announced that they will stop making HD DVD players and recorders, making Blu-ray disc technology the winner in the HD format battle. Toshiba has pledged to continue support for the estimated 1 million HD DVD players it has already sold.
