When we try to recreate the movie theater experience
at home, what often falls short is the size and scale of
the screen. For that really big picture, you need a front
projection TV. A front projector is positioned very much
like a traditional movie film projector. That is, in "front"
of a separate reflective screen. And the screen can be
as big, or small, as you want. In fact, screens as big
as 200" diagonal are not uncommon in larger home
theater systems.
Using the familiar DLP® and SXRD and LCD imaging
technologies, front projectors create incredible Hi-Def
images, with picture resolution all the way up to 1080p.
Now here's the good news: front projector prices have
dramatically dropped. What was as much as $12,000 a year
ago, is now only $5,000. Now that's the kind of technology
we really can appreciate.
Our advice is to never skimp on the screen. It may look like
simple white cloth, but there is a lot of technology that
goes into it. A good screen can display bright, rich, colorful
images even in well-lit rooms. A cheap screen that is not
as reflective might require a fully darkened room, much like
a movie theater.
